Primary type information: Primary type material: 6 syntype workers. Primary type localities: Virgin Is: St Thomas I., 14.x.1878 (A. Forel) (invalid restriction of type locality by Kempf, 1972b: 143; no lectotype designated), Guatemala: (no further data; material apparently lost). Primary type depository: MHNG. Type notes: 1) This taxon is based on specimens of Monomorium carbonarium Smith, 1858a, sensu Forel, 1881: 8, misidentification. 2) A lectotype queen designated by DuBois, 1986: 106, is redundant as no queen is mentioned in the original type series, and the lectotype’s locality, St Vincent, does not occur in either of Forel’s publications (Forel, 1881, Forel, 1891c).
