Etymology |
From the Latin conjugant- (conjugans), present participle of the verb conjugare, meaning “connecting”, “uniting”. Such an epithet is undoubtedly a reference to the intermediate morphology of this species among the other taxa of the then considered separate genera Aspididris and Basiceros. When describing the species, Brown, 1974c refers to Basiceros conjugans as the “additional intergradient” and formally synonymizes Aspididris under Basiceros. (Source: Probst & Brandão, 2022: 21.) |
