1) Donisthorpe, 1932c: 464, cites 1 worker in OXUM; confirmed by Bolton (unpublished notes) 1978. 2) The type locality was provided by Smith, 1871a: 318: Indonesia: Bachian (= Bacan I.). 3) The OXUM specimen recognised as holotype by Donisthorpe, 1932c: 464, fits the original description perfectly, so it is probably best to regard it as the true type and suppose that the locality label was added later, a supposition supported by the fact that the name is fully written, “Batchian”, rather than abbreviated to “Bac.”, as was Smith’s usual procedure (Bolton (unpublished notes) 1978). |
