Etymology The specific name rubra is adjectival, meaning “red”. In Monomorium (neuter), the original neuter ending rubra is incorrect, and must be corrected to rubrum. Under recombination with Chelaner (masculine), mandatory gender agreement (Art. 31.2) requires the form ruber.
