Protonym: Monomorium kiliani var. tambourinensis
Authorship Forel, 1915b: 71
Forms w.q.
Bioregion Australasia
Locality AUSTRALIA (Queensland)
Etymology Littauer, 2025: 278, Table 1: The gender of this name was not correct in the original combination, as with Monomorium the correct neuter form would be tambourinense for this latinised word. The name is adjectival, meaning “from Mt. Tamborine”, which is named after a Yugambeh word from the Wangerriburra clan, meaning "wild lime tree" or "yam in a cliff" (Queensland Government 2025) and not named after the musical instrument. The spelling can not be changed (Art. 32.5.1). Under recombination with Chelaner (masculine), mandatory gender agreement (Art. 31.2) requires the form tambourinensis.
Primary type information Primary type material: syntype workers, syntype queens (numbers not stated). Primary type locality: Australia: Queensland, Mt Tamborine, x.1913 (E. Mjöberg). Primary type depository: MHNG (perhaps also NHRS).
