Etymology The species is dedicated to Roy R. Snelling in honour of the significant work he accomplished in the taxonomy and systematics of ants and other hymenopterans over several decades and also for his personal help and advice.

Primary type locality: Kenya: Western Prov., Kakamega Forest, Salazar, 00°19’36’’N, 34°52’14.6’’E, 1650 m., Transect 6, Kakamega survey 2007, primary rainforest, leaf litter, pitfall trap, 17.viii.2007 (M. Peters). Primary type depository: NMKN.
