‘‘Mikromelanos’’ is a singular, masculine adjective, compounded from the Greek µικρóς (mikrós), meaning ‘‘small,’’ and µελανóς (melanós), meaning ‘‘black’’ or ‘‘dark.’’ This etymology highlights the authors’ colloquial use of ‘‘little black’’ to describe the small darker queens of Mycetomoellerius mikromelanos. |
