Etymology The specific epithet ‘chaan’ derives from the Mayan language which means ‘tiny, small’, alluding to the tiny size of this species.
Primary type information Primary type material: holotype major worker. Primary type locality: México: Chiapas, Simojovel, in amber from Los Pocitos mine; Mazantic shale and Balumtum sandstone strata, early Miocene. Primary type depository: CPAL-UAEM. Primary type specimen: CPAL.469.
