Etymology |
The specific epithet combines the Latin suffix -antisor "giant" with ocellus, in reference to the large ocelli present within male members of the species. |

Primary type material: holotype male. Primary type locality: U.S.A.: North Carolina, along the Neuse River near Goldsboro, a locality that is part of the Cretaceous Black Creek Formation; from an amber deposit in an Upper Cretaceous (Campanian) outcrop. Primary type depository: AMNH. Primary type specimen: AMNH-NC-MSE-2 (centrally located within amber piece (i.e., ‘‘ant 1’’ of Krynicki). |
