Primary type material: holotype worker. Primary type locality: none given. Primary type depository: unknown (“in the collection of Mr Thwaites”.)
Type notes:
Smith, 1858a: 111, says that the single specimen was in “sugar casks from South America”. If the comment is correct then Dorylus spinolae can not be a Dorylus species.
