Primary type locality: Australia: Queensland, Cape York Peninsula, McIlwraith (“McIlthwaite”) Range, Lankelly Creek, 1931-32, (Harvard Expd.) (P.J. Darlington). Primary type depositories: MCZC, MVMA, USNM. Type notes: 1) Shattuck, 1994: 115, cites 21 worker, 2 male syntypes (16w, 2m MCZC, 2w MVMA, 3w USNM). 2) Shattuck, 1994 also cites 5 worker syntypes in MCZC, from Cape York, Coen, a locality not mentioned in the original description but which is the type locality of both the junior synonyms Leptomyrmex darlingtoni fascigaster and Leptomyrmex darlingtoni jucundus.
