Neoponera commutata (Roger, 1860) valid
Ponera commutata Roger, 1860: 311 (w.q.) NO LOCALITY GIVEN.
Primary type information: Primary type material: 1 syntype worker, 1 syntype queen. Primary type locality: none given. Primary type depository: unknown (perhaps MNHN if syntypes still in existence). Type notes: 1) Roger, 1860 nominated Neoponera commutata as the new species name for the Neotropical specimens of Paltothyreus tarsatus Fabricius, 1798, sensu Latreille, 1802a: 200, misidentification. Neither Latreille, 1802a nor Roger cited a Neotropical type locality for the taxon. Two years earlier Smith, 1858a: 94, had observed that this was a Neotropical species, not Afrotropical (see his discussion), and gave Guyana and Brazil (Pará) as localities. 2) Perhaps there were more syntypes originally, but Latreille, 1802a: 220, pl. 7, figs. 44A , 44B, illustrates one of each caste.
