Ponera inversa Smith, 1858a: 96 (w.) ECUADOR. Neotropic.
Primary type information: Primary type material: lectotype worker (by designation of Fernandes et al., 2014: 149). Primary type locality: Ecuador (“South America”): Napo, “51/70” (no collector’s name). Primary type depository: BMNH. Type notes: 1) BMNH accessions register gives: “1851 no. 70 (July 24) S. America (Napo River). Purchased of Mr Stevens” (Bolton (unpublished notes) 1978). 2) One of the two original syntypes (now the lectotype), was labelled as “type” of Neoponera inversa, and fits the original description; the second matches the note on “var.” given by Smith, and was identified as Neoponera villosa by MacKay & MacKay, 2010: 409.
