Primary type information: Primary type material: syntype workers (number not stated). Primary type locality: Algeria: Souk Ahras, and Duvivier (= Bouchegouf), iii.-iv.1889 (A. Forel). Primary type depository: MHNG. Type notes: Cagniant, 1996a: 74, nominated this taxon for specimens of Aphaenogaster striola subterraneoides Emery, sensu Forel, 1890b: lxxi, misidentification. They are the same specimens that Emery, 1921c: 58, used for his name Aphaenogaster homonyma, which has priority; therefore Aphaenogaster foreli is automatically a junior synonym of Aphaenogaster homonyma.
