Primary type information: Primary type material: holotype worker. Primary type locality: Indonesia: Aru Is, “Aroo” (A.R. Wallace). Primary type depository: material lost (not in OXUM). Type notes: Holotype worker lost. A specimen supposedly the worker holotype of Meranoplus spinosus (OXUM, examined) is actually a queen of a Neotropical Procryptocerus species. Therefore, either the type locality is in error, or the specimen has been changed, or perhaps both (Bolton, 1995b: 367).
