Type notes: 1) Donisthorpe, 1932c: 473, cites 1 worker in OXUM; confirmed by Bolton (unpublished notes) 1978. 2) The holotype worker is labelled “S.” (Donisthorpe, 1932c: 473), the usual abbreviation for the Salawati Is. Smith, 1865a gives the type locality as New Guinea (= “N.”) in the text. However, the specimen matches the original description, so a mislabelling or a later switch of labels is suspected (Bolton (unpublished notes) 1978).
