Primary type information: Primary type material: syntype major and minor workers, syntype queens, syntype males (numbers not stated). Primary type localities: U.S.A.: California, King’s River Canyon (H. Heath), California, Marin County, Fallenleaf Lake, Giant Forest Trail and Alta Meadow Trail (J.C. Bradley), California, Sierra Nevada (no collector’s name), California, Tahoe City (A. Fenyes). Primary type depository: MCZC (probably also in AMNH, LACM). Type notes: 1) This taxon was based on specimens of Camponotus semipunctatus Kirby, 1837, sensu Forel, 1879a: 57, and sensu Forel, 1904b: 152, misidentifications. 2) Wheeler, 1910g: 334, also cites U.S.A. localities in Washington, Oregon, Nevada, Idaho, Colorado, New Mexico, Utah, and South Dakota, and in Canada: British Columbia, but adds, “I would regard California as the type locality”; this designation was endorsed by Creighton, 1950a: 369.
