Primary type information: Primary type material: holotype (?) worker. Primary type locality: Brazil: Rio Negro (A. von Humboldt). Primary type depository: perhaps MNHU. Type notes: 1) No indication of number of specimens is given. 2) Kempf, 1959c: 232, Kempf, 1972b: 143, and MacKay, 1993b: 97, give the type locality as Venezuela, Rio Negro. 3) Both Kempf and Mackay give the publication date of Dolichoderus spinicollis as 1832, an incorrect date originally given by Dalla Torre, 1893: 161, and repeated in Forel, 1895b: 108.
